A Hymn to Tyche

This translation from Stobaeus’ Anthology 1.6.13 is taken from Ɔ. Martiana’s The Book of Sallustius the Philosopher, an eBook from Sartrix Translations.

Tyche (gr. Τύχα), people’s beginning
And end! You sit on wisdom as your seat
And place honor onto mortal works.
And the good from you is greater than the evil;
Grace shines around your golden wing.
And what is given from your balance turns out most blessed.
You see a path away from helplessness through troubles,
And you bring a shining light in the darkness, most eminent of goddesses!
